The Start
Some of the supporters.
In August, most of the boats but necessarily the same crews will reach Kaua'i. The races are held once a month on weekends and the crews assemble the day before the starts. When the winds are right (20 knots) the crew hike out on the trampoline to keep the boat balanced. Its up to the guy on the main sheet to keep the boat moving without capsizing. The helmsman has to keep the boat going in the right direction. When the winds are down, the paddlers paddle. When the winds are too strong you pull up on the beach. The crews carry extra paddles because much worse than being up a creek, being becalmed out on the ocean without a paddle can be a life altering experience Hana Film Festival, Saturday, November 7, 2009 is a celebration of Music, Arts, Culture.
